OK I am pretty sure that out of the gruesome foursome that are doing The Big Woody that I was the only one that hadn’t fell off the bike. Until today. And I managed to do it in spectacular style going around a roundabout a mile from home.
Up until then I had been having a great session. Legs felt great. Pushed up the hills and really got the legs pumping on the flat. It all felt really good and I was going faster than normal. Which was my un-doing as I had wanted to do 90 mins – roughly 21 miles at my normal pace-but because I had gone so well I was nearly home with 10 mins left to go.
Did a bit of a detour and at the roundabout where I intended turning back for home I just lost it completely. As I turned right on the roundabout the bike just slid away under me and I hit the deck as the bike slid off over the road…luckily the car following me managed to stop in time! First thought was “f**king h*ll” as I leapt up to grab the bike and get off the road.
First thing I did was to check the bike over and then checked myself over – at least I know where my priorities lie! Bike chain had come off and front tyre was virtually flat…I suspect I had picked up a puncture and the loss of air has resulted in me losing control. My damage? Cut left elbow, cut and bruised right knee, and grazes on chest. But where theres no sense there is no feeling so no problem there!
For what it’s worth the stats are:
22.50 miles 1:27:36 avg speed 15.4 mph and that includes a very slow crawl home for the last mile!

Glad you are alright mate, isn’t funny that when we’ve all crashed the first priority is to check the bike !!
Take it easy and make sure you heal ok !
